Blizzard of '79 and 2011

Now that the Blizzard of 2011 in Chicago is over it reminded me so much of my childhood with the Blizzard of '79. The total snowfall for both ranged from 18 to 20 inches of the white stuff. Back in January of '79 I was 8 years old with not a care in the world. In 1979 you didn't have the 4-wheelers so you were pretty much stuck if you ventured out in your rear wheel Chevy Station Wagon. There was so much snow my brothers had the idea to use the garage as a launching pad for our bodies. You could dive off the garage and not worry about getting hurt. I was nervous as all heck and would cautiously jump off and land safely each time. My brothers on the other hand would have fake fights and just fly right off. Crazy but fun. There was so much snow my father had to take his electric snow blower to remove the snow from the edition of the house so it wouldn't collapse. Check out our home movie!!

This Blizzard of 2011 I did not enjoy as much since I had to worry about removing 4 feet of snow from the base of our driveway. (A big thank you to my wife for helping!) I also had to dig a path so the dog could do his business. I also, like my father, had to remove some snow from the roof (i'm still not finished) to avoid possible ice jams and leaks. Our back door still has some major snow to remove. (See Pic Above)

I did for old times sake jump off our roof into the white fluff, it was as fun as I remembered!
